Marketing App

Product Design - Product Management - UX Research - UX Copywriting
Project Overview
In March 2023 I joined Measured, a SaaS B2B startup whose mission was to empower users with knowledge of how effective their online marketing was on the internet. Businesses wanted to know where to spend their advertising dollars and Measured was their go to in terms of finding that out.

I worked on a team of 4 designers including a VP of Product Design, a Senior Product Designer, and a UX Copywriter to design a net-new dashboard to summarize the entire suite of products which lived in the portal.
My Contributions
The MVP was built from scratch and launched in just under 12 months. The new dashboard drove an increase in users roughly 20%, a 10% increase in accounts created and doubled the amount of page views, making it the most popular product in the portal.

Contributions:

- Shipped 3 products from scratch (including dashboard)
- Built 2 additional products from scratch, (in production)
- Improved 2 legacy products (in production)

About the Business
Measured was a six year old startup at the time, with a goal of shifting to a self serviced product through improved user experience. Customers were loyal to Measured because of their accuracy in reporting.
About the Customers
Measured’s customers came from all aspects of business, from startups to more established brands such as Footlocker and Mailchimp. Employees from these brands were mainly Portfolio Managers, Channel Managers, and Marketing Analysts, all with the same workflow of deciding where to invest media spend.
The Problem
Measured’s existing portal was fragmented and catered towards the power user. One of the issues was that users had no centralized area to gain insight on how well their portfolio was performing on a high level across all products.
The Solution
The solution was to provide a summary across all products and bring that to a centralized location so that the user didn’t have to click around the portal so much to gain an overall insight on how well their portfolio was performing. That being said, I was tasked with doing research on how exactly our users worked, then proposing how to move forward from there.
Lo-fi Mockups
I worked with the VP of Product Design to get an understanding how this new dashboard would integrate with the rest of the portal, and where it would springboard to various areas of the site.
Lo-fi Mockups: Main Dashboard
I created many variations of how the layout of the new dashboard could look, and settled on a final layout.
Hi-Fi Mockups - Main Dashboard
Once the lo-fi wireframes were decided, I continued with building a high fidelity prototype of the main dashboard. This included using new and existing components from the design system to ensure a pixel perfect design. There were many revisions and it was a collaborative experience between Product Management and VP of Product Design upon reaching its destination.
Zooming in - KPI Contextual Menu
I wanted the main dashboard to achieve a sense of discovery, where if one clicked on a metric, one would see details on that exact metric and take action if they saw something interesting. I always advocated for a sense of actionability within the experience.
Data Visualization
It wouldn’t be a dashboard without data visualization, therefore I enjoyed creating pie charts and line graphs because of their easy to read nature. Below you can see some of the components I built to provide the user with the best default settings possible, with the flexibility to gain insights on a high level.
Highlights and Recommendations
One of the most significant aspects about Measured’s intelligence was the ability to scan a customers portfolio, and based on it’s scanning, providing a summary or a recommendation on what action to take next. The highlights (sidebar) section we kept fresh, ensuring that every time a user logged in, there was something a user could take action on on how to improve their portfolio performance.
Deep Dive
On a granular level, our customers wanted to know how individual investments were performing in their portfolio. Based on user data, I designed an experience around double clicking into a single investment and doing essentially a deep dive on its overall performance. I decided on a tabbed menu system so that a user could easily flip between information with a single click.
Design Proccess
The design process isn’t always straightforward, as we all might know. But, to sum it up, it may have gone something like this, with some variation.
Concept Validation
After the design was finished, I had to test it with future users and amongst our own staff (Customer Success) to ensure it was doing the job it needed to do. I participated and conducted user validation feedback sessions and recorded the findings.
Implementation
Once that was completed, It was time to ensure that everything was in line with the design system in preparation for engineering to build. This meant working with the design system specialist to ensure that my components were on par with what engineering would be able to build. I also managed and mentored interns each summer who helped out with this process.
Putting it all Together
I then handed off the design to engineering to make it come to life. At this stage, I handled everything from communicating how things were supposed to work to QA’ing each build as they were released.
Impact
Upon launch, mentioned in Yahoo Finance and AdExchanger, the portal saw a 20% increase in users, 10% more accounts created, and nearly doubled the amount of page views as a whole. Businesswire.com breaks down the product in their analysis article here.
Reflection
Working on this product was a fantastic experience. I enjoyed building something meaningful and practical to empower businesses to make better decisions. I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity and I wish the best moving forward.
